Barcelona secured the Copa del Rey title Saturday, defeating fierce rivals Real Madrid 3-2 after extra time in a final played at Seville's La Cartuja stadium. A goal from Jules Koundé in the final minutes decided the match.
Pedri opened the scoring for Barcelona in the 28th minute with a curling shot from outside the box during a first half Barcelona largely controlled.
Kylian Mbappé, who came off the bench for Real Madrid in the second half, equalized in the 70th minute from a free kick.
Aurélien Tchouaméni gave Real Madrid the lead seven minutes later with a header from a corner.
Ferran Torres leveled the score for Barcelona in the 84th minute on a counterattack, sending the match into extra time.
With penalties appearing likely, Jules KoundĂ© scored the winner in the 116th minute, connecting on a pass from Brahim DĂaz and finishing from 25 yards.
The end of the match saw controversy for Real Madrid, with Antonio Rüdiger and Lucas Vázquez shown red cards for dissent from the bench after being substituted. Jude Bellingham also received a red card after the final whistle.
The match referee, Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea, faced multiple decisions, including a Barcelona penalty awarded and then overturned by VAR in extra time.
Barcelona vs Real Madrid have met three times this season, with Barcelona winning all three encounters. Barcelona previously won the Spanish Super Cup final in January and a LaLiga match in October. This Copa del Rey win marks Barcelona's 32nd title in the competition.
"Happy and tired. Without a doubt, it was the most physically demanding game I've played in my life. But we're a great team who never gives up," Ferran Torres told TVE after being named player of the match. "It tastes better that way, especially when it's Real Madrid in front of us."
