BOSTON – John Korir claimed victory at the 129th running of the Boston Marathon on Monday, adding a unique chapter to the race’s history alongside his older brother. Korir finished the historic course in 2 hours, 4 minutes, 45 seconds, the second-fastest winning time ever recorded here.

The 28-year-old Kenyan’s win marks the first time siblings have both won the prestigious marathon. His brother, Wesley Korir, secured the title in 2012 during a notably hot year.

Following his win, John Korir was met at the finish line on Boylston Street by Wesley, who embraced him in celebration. John had trained for the boston marathon 2025 after consulting his brother for advice on the challenging course.

Alphonce Felix Simbu of Tanzania and Cybrian Kotut of Kenya finished nearly side-by-side, both clocking 2:05:04. A photo review determined Simbu secured second place, with Kotut taking third. American Conner Mantz followed shortly after in fourth place with a time of 2:05:08. Defending men's champion Sisay Lemma dropped out before Mile 17.

In the women’s elite race, Sharon Lokedi of Kenya dominated, shattering the course record with a finishing time of 2:17:22. Lokedi, who placed second in 2024, beat the previous mark of 2:19:59.

Hellen Obiri, seeking a third consecutive Boston win, placed behind Lokedi. All three women on the podium finished faster than the prior course record.

American distance runner Des Linden completed her final professional marathon, finishing in 2:26:18. Linden, the 2018 Boston champion, had announced her retirement plans before the race.

Switzerland's Marcel Hug secured his eighth victory in the men’s wheelchair division. Hug crossed the line in an unofficial time of 1:21:34, marking his third straight win. American Daniel Romanchuk finished second.

In the women’s wheelchair division, Susannah Scaroni of the United States won for the second time in her career, finishing in 1:35:20. She joins a select group of American women with multiple wins in the division.
