The trade that sent wide receiver Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills to the Houston Texans saw its final components finalized at the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft. The deal, executed during the 2024 offseason, involved the exchange of multiple draft selections.
Under the original terms, the Texans received Diggs, a 2024 sixth-round pick, and a 2025 fifth-round pick. In exchange, the Bills acquired a 2025 second-round selection.
Buffalo used the 2025 second-round pick, which fell at number 56, as part of a package to move up in the draft for South Carolina defensive tackle T.J. Sanders. With the pick Buffalo traded away, the Chicago Bears selected Boston College offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo.
Houston also made moves with the picks acquired. The 2024 sixth-round selection (pick 189) was traded to Detroit for picks 205 and 249. Houston used these later picks on running back Jawhar Jordan (205), who spent the 2024 season on the practice squad, and guard LaDarius Henderson (249), who was on the Non-Football Injury list with a foot issue. Houston also held the 2025 fifth-round pick (166) from the trade, utilizing it during the recent draft.
Stefon Diggs' tenure with the Texans lasted only one season. His contract was restructured for a single year, and his season was cut short by a torn ACL suffered in the eighth game. He finished his time in Houston with 47 catches for 496 yards and three receiving touchdowns, adding one rushing touchdown.
Diggs has since signed with the New England Patriots this offseason. Despite the change in teams, he remains active, recently sending a social media message to Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice on Rice's birthday.
The message, reading "HBD SCRAP," reflected respect between the veteran receiver and the younger player. Diggs and Rice, along with other prominent wide receivers like CeeDee Lamb, have trained together previously, showcasing camaraderie across teams.
Rice, recovering from a knee injury that limited his 2024 season after a strong rookie campaign, is expected to take on an increased role in the Chiefs' offense alongside players like Hollywood Brown and Travis Kelce, catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.
The finalization of the draft selections marks the conclusion of the trade's asset distribution, while Diggs transitions to his new team following his single season in Houston.
