Florida State defensive back Azareye'h Thomas became the first Seminole selected in the 2025 NFL Draft, hearing his name called by the New York Jets. Thomas was the 73rd overall pick, taken in the third round of the draft held in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Thomas' selection marks the beginning of what is expected to be a smaller draft class for Florida State compared to previous years. Despite earlier mock draft projections, which at one point saw Thomas discussed as a potential late-first-round pick, he landed in the third round.

Experts offered varied predictions for the cornerback's draft spot leading up to the event. Some placed him relatively high on their boards; one projection had him going as the No. 48 pick overall, while another suggested he could be taken at No. 50 to the Seattle Seahawks. Mel Kiper's final Big Board listed Azareye'h Thomas at No. 48.

The Niceville, Florida, native concluded his collegiate career with 95 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 15 pass breakups, two interceptions, and one forced fumble. His performance in the 2024 season was noteworthy, as he reportedly did not allow a touchdown while accumulating 52 tackles, two tackles for loss, four pass breakups, and an interception, earning All-ACC honorable mention honors.

With the selection, Azareye'h Thomas joins a New York Jets roster that includes former Seminoles quarterback Jordan Travis and defensive end Jermaine Johnson.

Following Thomas, the next Seminole expected to be drafted is defensive tackle Joshua Farmer. Most forecasts place Farmer within the third round as well, potentially selected in the early part of the round.

Several other FSU football players hope to hear their names called during the remaining rounds of the draft. Kicker Ryan Fitzgerald and punter Alex Mastromanno have drawn interest from NFL teams. Cornerback Fentrell Cypress is another player some projections have potentially being selected.

Beyond those likely to be drafted, several other former Florida State players could sign free-agent contracts if they are not selected over the draft's final two days. This group includes offensive tackle Jeremiah Byers, defensive back Kevin Knowles, receiver Ja’Khi Douglas, running back Lawrance Toafili, linebacker Cam Riley, and quarterback DJ Uiagalelei.

Thomas is the first Seminole to be picked in the 2025 NFL Draft, with other players awaiting their fate in the coming rounds.
