Mixed martial arts fighter Paddy Pimblett shed approximately 40 pounds in weight in the weeks before his victory against Michael Chandler at UFC 314 last month. The British fighter secured a stoppage win over the veteran Chandler at the event held in Miami.
Pimblett, who competes in the lightweight division, documented his preparation process, revealing he began his training camp at 190 pounds, significantly over the 156-pound limit for non-title fights.
His method involved strict dieting, initially consuming around 2,000 calories per day, alongside daily training sessions. Early in the process, Pimblett noted frustration as his weight dropped slowly.
As camp progressed, his weight targets became more attainable. He reached 175 pounds with less than three weeks remaining before dropping to 170 pounds two days before the official weigh-in.
The final weight cut involved standard procedures like water manipulation. On the night before the weigh-ins, he registered 157 pounds, indicating he was on track to make the limit without extensive further cutting the following morning.
Despite the large initial figure, Pimblett described the final hours leading up to hitting the scale as straightforward.
Paddy Pimblett is known to balloon in weight between fights, a habit that has drawn commentary. However, his discipline during training camp allows him to compete at the required weight class.
His win over Michael Chandler marked what he described as the biggest win of his career to date.
The victory at UFC 314 extended Pimblett's undefeated run in the UFC to seven fights. His overall professional record now stands at 23 wins and three losses.
Pimblett stated, "That was one of my easiest weight cuts."
