Sports journalist David Faitelson has accused former mentor José Ramón Fernández of past cocaine use, escalating a public dispute between the prominent media figures. The accusation came after Fernández criticized Faitelson's work since joining TUDN.
Faitelson's claim alleges Fernández experienced problems with cocaine consumption during his final period at TV Azteca. Faitelson stated the issue was severe enough that the company owner reportedly sent Fernández and his wife to Spain for recovery, covering expenses.
Ricardo Salinas Pliego, owner of TV Azteca, responded to the accusation, stating he preferred not to comment further. Ricardo Salinas Pliego broke his silence on social media, saying he closed that chapter and left judgment to a higher power, noting his relationship with Fernández did not end well.
The exchange follows Fernández reportedly calling a journalist for TUDN, identified as Faitelson by others, a 'sicario' or hitman of information. Fernández suggested Faitelson had a conflict of interest since moving to Televisa, the parent company of TUDN.
David Faitelson responded via his social media account, addressing the conflict of interest claims. He stated that while Grupo Pachuca paid for his expenses related to his induction into the Football Hall of Fame, his wife's travel costs were covered by him, providing payment proof.
Faitelson also pointed to a conflict of interest involving Grupo Pachuca and Fernández, citing that Fernández's son works for León, a club owned by the group.
