Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs publicly suggested the team should add a proven veteran receiver. His comments followed the Packers' playoff exit last season. Jacobs said the team’s young receiving group needs a more consistent threat.
Speaking on a local radio station earlier this offseason, Jacobs highlighted the potential of the current receivers. Still, he noted the benefit of bringing in a player already established as a top target in the league. The Packers traded Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders and have not had a player reach 1,000 receiving yards since.
Packers quarterback Jordan Love addressed Jacobs's remarks recently. Love partnered with Toyota for a community football initiative. He expressed confidence in the wide receiver room already in Green Bay.
Love acknowledged Jacobs's point about needing a veteran presence. He countered that the younger players gained significant experience playing early in their careers. Love stated the team's mindset remains focused on being the best version of themselves.
The upcoming NFL Draft presents a chance to add players. Love mentioned the possibility of the team adding receivers. He specifically hinted at a player from his college alma mater, Utah State.
Love likely referred to Jalen Royals, a receiver prospect from Utah State. Royals is ranked highly among receivers in this year's draft class. He is projected as a potential mid-round selection.
Even without a traditional No. 1 receiver last season, the Packers' offense performed well, ranking in the top five across the NFL. Adding receiver depth could strengthen the team, especially with Christian Watson working back from a late-season injury. Watson suffered a torn ACL and will likely miss the start of the 2025 season.
Jacobs recently joined 'The Insiders' for an exclusive interview the day before the 2025 NFL Draft. He also appeared on 'GMFB' to discuss expectations for the Packers' offense in 2024.
Love said to Sports Illustrated, "I think we have a very good receiver room as it is... With the draft coming up, I'm sure we're going to add a couple receivers to that room, and I know there's a guy who went to my alma mater of Utah State, who I wouldn't be mad if we added, because I know the Aggies, we've got some talent over there."
