The family of cyclist Remco Evenepoel is considering legal action following public comments, according to reports, including coverage by HLN. The controversy follows remarks made by sport journalist Ruben Van Gucht during a television program.

Van Gucht appeared on 'De Afspraak' to discuss cycling. During the segment, he spoke about Remco Evenepoel's relationship with his wife's family.

The journalist suggested he had heard Evenepoel financially supports his wife's parents. Van Gucht stated, "I hear that, I hear that. Of course, tomorrow they can say 'those are all loose rumors'."

Remco Evenepoel responded publicly, strongly refuting Van Gucht's statements. On social media, Evenepoel described the remarks as "respectless, absurd, complete nonsense."

Evenepoel stated his wife comes from a prosperous family whose parents built a successful life through diligent work and business. He added that his wife's parents reside near his own family home in Schepdaal, Belgium, noting they live in a substantial villa.

The cyclist expressed that love, respect, and diligent work were foundational to his and his wife's standing, not prejudice or rumors. He suggested Van Gucht held a "limited world view" regarding a Moroccan family.

Evenepoel concluded his message by referencing Van Gucht's personal life, stating, "Maybe you should rather worry about your own family, Ruben... because we also hear things."

The family's grievances also reportedly include racist remarks directed at Remco Evenepoel and his wife. Familie van Remco Evenepoel dreigt met klachten na racistische opmerkingen. Patrick Evenepoel, Remco's father, indicated that those making such comments could face consequences.
