The Quetta Gladiators defeated Islamabad United by two wickets in a Pakistan Super League match Saturday at Gaddafi Stadium. The win propelled Quetta Gladiators to the top position in the league standings.
The match was decided in the final over. Needing 15 runs for victory, Quetta Gladiators batter Hasan Nawaz faced medium-pacer Mohammad Shahzad. Hasan Nawaz hit a six on the fifth ball of the over to secure the win.
Hasan Nawaz scored 64 runs without being dismissed from 41 balls. He was dropped twice in the final over. Wicket-keeper Andries Gous fumbled a chance, and captain Salman Ali Agha put down a difficult chance in the slip area.
Islamabad United batted first and posted a total of 157 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs. Sahibzada Farhan and Kyle Mayers provided a rapid start, adding 58 runs within the initial six overs.
Sahibzada Farhan was the leading scorer for Islamabad United with 39 runs off 24 balls, including four sixes and two fours. Kyle Mayers contributed 22 runs from 17 balls before being dismissed.
Medium pacer Faheem Ashraf was the most effective bowler for Quetta Gladiators, taking four wickets for 25 runs in three overs.
In the chase, Quetta Gladiators lost both opening batters within the first four overs after getting off to a quick start. Saud Shakeel was caught for seven, and Finn Allen made 20 runs.
Rilee Rossouw and Hasan Nawaz built a 52-run partnership. Rossouw was run out for 27 runs in the 10th over. Other middle-order batters, including Mark Chapman, Haseebullah Khan, Faheem Ashraf, and Kyle Jamieson, fell quickly.
Mohammad Wasim Jr added 16 runs off 11 balls late in the innings before being dismissed. Hasan Nawaz anchored the innings, guiding Quetta Gladiators to the target with one ball remaining.
The result puts Quetta Gladiators at the top of the HBL PSL 2025 table with 11 points from eight games. Islamabad United dropped to second place with 10 points from eight games. Earlier in the day, Islamabad United won the toss and elected to bowl first against Quetta Gladiators.
