OG Anunoby is making a significant impact for the New York Knicks during their 2025 NBA Playoffs run. The forward's performance has drawn comparisons to some of the most notable players to emerge from Indiana University.
Anunoby is currently averaging 19 points and 4.7 rebounds through seven playoff games for the Knicks. His shooting percentages stand at 43.8% overall, including 39.6% from 3-point range, complemented by an 88% success rate at the free throw line.
This scoring pace positions Anunoby among an elite group of former Indiana University players in playoff history. Only four others have averaged more points over a playoff season with at least seven games played.
Legendary guard Isiah Thomas reached this threshold four times, peaking at 24.1 points per game in 1987. Hall of Fame big men Walt Bellamy and George McGinnis also achieved this feat, Bellamy once in 1965 (20.9 ppg) and McGinnis three times, highlighted by a 32.3 ppg average in the 1975 ABA playoffs. Victor Oladipo is the only other modern player to surpass Anunoby's current average in seven or more games, doing so with 22.7 points per game in 2018.
Anunoby's efficiency from the free throw line in the current playoffs surpasses any single playoff season free throw percentage recorded by Thomas. Thomas, however, holds a higher single-season three-point percentage mark from the 1990 NBA championship run.
Anunoby's contributions proved essential in the Knicks' recent Game 1 overtime victory against the Boston Celtics. He co-led the Knicks with 29 points, hitting six three-pointers, adding four rebounds and three assists. Anunoby and point guard Jalen Brunson combined for 22 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, helping overcome a large third-quarter deficit.
The performance follows other notable plays, including a poster dunk against the Celtics in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals that drew attention despite being called back by a whistle. OG Anunoby's poster dunk was remembered as a highlight regardless of the ruling.
The New York Knicks are set to continue the series Wednesday.
