Baltimore Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday is showing progress in his sophomore season, attributing some of the recent improvements at the plate to advice from his father, former MLB outfielder Matt Holliday. The 21-year-old recently demonstrated his developing power, including a multi-home run game against the Kansas City Royals.

Matt Holliday periodically visits the Orioles, offering insights from his playing career to his son. While their conversations often cover family and general baseball topics, they include hitting adjustments when needed.

Amid a slump earlier this season, Jackson Holliday sought input from his father. Matt Holliday reviewed video and noted Jackson Holliday's posture and hand placement appeared different compared to a successful stretch last season when he adopted a toe tap swing mechanic with assistance from hitting coach Cody Asche.

Matt Holliday observed the youngster was more crouched in his stance with hands held horizontally behind his head. He suggested Jackson Holliday stand more upright and keep his hands in a more vertical position, mirroring his setup from September of the previous year.

Jackson Holliday has a support system that includes the Orioles' hitting coaches. However, he also benefits from his father's outside perspective and video analysis.

The recent two-homer game highlighted the potential that made Jackson Holliday the former No. 1 overall pick. After struggling during his rookie call-up, he is posting improved numbers this season.

Jackson Holliday appears to be settling into a more consistent role with the Orioles. He is part of a young core that includes Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman.

Following the multi-homer game, Jackson Holliday described his approach.

"Not trying to move the ball forward, but just trying to put good swings on it," Jackson Holliday said. "However I feel when I’m feeling smooth and free to deliver a good swing is kind of how I’ve been going about it."(Source)
