Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman each hit home runs as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Miami Marlins 7-4 on Monday night. The win started a road trip for the Dodgers, who have won eight of their last nine games.

Freeman connected for a two-run drive in the third inning. The ball traveled 402 feet to center field. It was Freeman’s 41st career home run against the Marlins, tying the record held by Ryan Howard and Ryan Zimmerman for most homers by an opponent.

The home run came off Marlins starter Sandy Alcántara. Alcántara allowed five runs and six hits over five innings. Six days earlier, the Dodgers scored seven runs off Alcántara in fewer than three innings.

Ohtani added to the lead with his own two-run home run, hitting a drive with an exit velocity of 117.9 mph. Ohtani now shares the team lead in home runs with nine. He has recorded four homers at the Marlins park in his last two appearances there.

Other Dodgers contributed offensively. Mookie Betts and Teoscar Hernández each recorded two hits before Hernández left in the fourth due to tightness in his left hamstring.

In his first major league start, Hyeseong Kim singled for his first hit leading off the fifth inning and later scored on Ohtani's home run. Kim also drove in a run.

Ben Casparius entered the game in the second inning for Dodgers opener Jack Dreyer. Casparius pitched four innings, allowing one run, and earned the win.

The Marlins scored three runs in the eighth inning on a home run by rookie Agustin Ramirez off reliever Yoendrys GĂłmez, cutting the deficit to 7-4. Tanner Scott finished the eighth inning for Miami before Kirby Yates secured his first save. Learn more about AP MLB.
