ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves mounted a five-run eighth inning rally Monday night, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 7-6. The comeback secured Atlanta's fourth consecutive victory.

The Cardinals held a one-run lead entering the eighth inning at Truist Park. Atlanta’s Austin Riley started the home half of the frame with an infield single, initially ruled an out but overturned after a replay review.

Riley's hit put a runner on base with one out, setting the stage for the Braves' offense. A walk followed, bringing Matt Olson to the plate. Olson delivered a single to right field that scored Riley, tying the game.

After a second walk loaded the bases, Michael Harris II hit a sacrifice fly to give Atlanta the lead. Sean Murphy stepped in next and launched a three-run home run, capping the five-run outburst and extending the lead to 7-3.

St. Louis, losing its fifth straight game and now 1-10 on the road, fought back in the ninth. Willson Contreras hit a two-run homer to pull the Cardinals within a run.

Cardinals reliever Phil Maton was charged with four runs in the eighth after having not allowed an earned run or walk this season prior to the outing. Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol was ejected during the eighth inning after arguing balls and strikes.

Atlanta closer Raisel Iglesias allowed three runs in the ninth but secured the final out.

The game ended on a confusing play involving Nolan Arenado. Arenado hit a dribbler near home plate that he appeared to think was foul, but it was ruled fair. Murphy tagged him out to end the game. Read the Game Recap for more details.

Cardinals starter Erick Fedde provided a solid performance, allowing just two earned runs over six innings. Atlanta right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach permitted three runs, two earned, across seven innings. Check the Box Score for complete stats.
