The Baltimore Orioles acquired right-handed pitcher Luis F. Castillo from the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday for cash considerations.

The move came after the Mariners designated Castillo for assignment Tuesday. That transaction freed a spot on Seattle's 40-man roster, making room for outfielder Leody Taveras, whom the Mariners claimed off waivers.

Baltimore optioned Castillo to Triple-A Norfolk following the acquisition. To create space on their own 40-man roster, the Orioles designated left-handed pitcher Walter Pennington for assignment.

Castillo appeared in five games for the Mariners this season, including two starts. He pitched a total of seven innings in the major leagues.

During his time on the big league roster, Castillo surrendered seven runs, six of which were earned. He allowed 12 hits and issued seven walks.

He recorded five strikeouts in his seven innings of work. His earned run average stood at 7.71 with a 2.71 WHIP.

Castillo signed a minor league contract during the offseason and was selected to the major league roster in early April. He took a pair of turns through the rotation before moving to the bullpen briefly.

This Luis F. Castillo is not the multi-time All-Star pitcher currently with the Seattle Mariners.

The Orioles acquired Castillo as organizational depth.
