A three-vehicle collision on I-40 West Saturday night resulted in the death of a 17-year-old driver, identified as Chance Lee Kimbro. Police reports indicate the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. near Spence Lane.
According to law enforcement, Kimbro was driving a 2015 Ford Fusion heading westbound on I-40. Witnesses reported the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and changing lanes erratically just prior to the crash.
The Ford Fusion rear-ended a semi-trailer. The impact caused the Fusion to spin or roll multiple times on the interstate.
Police said Chance Lee Kimbro was ejected from the vehicle during the crash sequence. He was then struck by a third vehicle on the roadway.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, and Kimbro was declared dead.
Authorities confirmed the 2015 Ford Fusion involved in the crash had been reported stolen earlier that day from an apartment complex in the Hermitage area.
An unidentified passenger was also in the Ford Fusion at the time of the collision. This individual reportedly fled the scene before officers arrived.
Investigators found no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement at the crash site. The westbound lanes of I-40 were closed for several hours Saturday night while police conducted their investigation and crews cleared the wreckage. (More on the crash)
