Heavy rain overnight and into Wednesday morning, May 7, 2025, has caused flash flooding and led to widespread road closures across Lafayette LA. The weather conditions prompted the Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) to close campuses, transitioning students to online learning for the day.

Officials are urging residents to use caution and avoid non-essential travel as water overtakes numerous roadways. Additional rainfall is possible throughout the day, with forecasts indicating another 2 to 5 inches could fall.

A real-time map of road closures provided by Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) showed several roads impassable as of Wednesday morning. Among the closures are the Jefferson Street underpass, sections of Prejean Road, Mills Street, Cankton Road, and Francoisis Road. Other impacted areas include parts of Saddle Crest Drive, Landry Road, Topeka Road, Rue Basin, Fado Street, Marigny Circle, Arnaudville Road, Parfait Road, and two sections of La. 347. The Henderson Roundabout is also closed.

Due to the weather, the Lafayette Transit System implemented a delayed start. Transit services began operations at 10:00 AM Wednesday, according to updates provided by LCG on Weather impacts on transit, trash.

Acadiana Waste Services (AWS) is maintaining normal trash collection schedules for Wednesday, May 7, including residential curbside services. Residents with specific collection questions are directed to contact AWS directly.

In anticipation of the flooding, sandbags were made available to residents in several parishes, including Lafayette. Lafayette Parish residents can pick up sandbags at 400 Dugas Road and Picard Park at 130 Park Lane, according to a report on sandbags available.
