Scattered showers and storms are expected across parts of the Midwest through Friday, impacting daily activities and potentially causing water level rises in some areas.

Weather disturbances are moving through the region this week, bringing varying chances of precipitation from Wednesday afternoon into Friday.

In the Kansas City area, Wednesday is labeled a Weather Impact Day with a chance of showers and storms developing in the afternoon. While the risk of severe weather appears low in the city, heavier rain could fall south of the Missouri River later today. Forecasts suggest up to an inch or two of rain could accumulate in some spots, potentially impacting areas that experienced flooding last week. Kansas City itself may see closer to a half-inch of rain.

Thursday also carries a Weather Impact Day designation, primarily for the morning in Kansas City with possibilities for spotty showers and storms. Temperatures are expected to reach around 70 degrees both days. The forecast shows drier conditions arriving for the weekend.

Indianapolis and central Indiana also face ongoing chances for showers and storms through Friday. After a brief break overnight, additional activity is anticipated Wednesday afternoon and evening, continuing into Thursday.

Central Indiana experienced damaging wind gusts and heavy rain earlier this week. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated Wednesday or Thursday, lightning remains a threat with any developing storms. Checking radar before and during outdoor activities is recommended.

High temperatures in Indianapolis are expected to reach the lower to middle 70s on Wednesday and Thursday, before dropping into the upper 60s on Friday when a few late-day showers remain possible. The weekend forecast currently favors dry, warmer conditions, although some data suggests potential changes. Additional weather information can be found on local news weather blogs here.

Further east in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, increasing clouds will lead to chances for showers beginning around midday Wednesday. Scattered showers are possible, favoring areas northwest of the city initially.

A more widespread push of rain and some embedded thunderstorms is forecast for Wednesday evening through early Thursday morning, representing the highest chance for precipitation in this area. Isolated to widely scattered showers could persist through Thursday.

Another round of showers is expected to move in on Friday from the northwest. Total rain amounts through Friday could range from around a tenth of an inch in the northwest to potentially half an inch or more in the southeast. Cooler temperatures will settle in for Friday, with lows dropping into the upper 30s and low 40s Friday night.

The weekend forecast for Cedar Rapids appears favorable with good amounts of sunshine expected Saturday and Sunday, allowing temperatures to climb back into the 60s and eventually low 70s. Warmer and generally dry conditions are anticipated to continue into early next week.
