VICTORVILLE, Calif. — A small earthquake shook parts of the Mojave Desert late Saturday night, prompting residents across the area to report feeling a brief jolt.
The U.S Geological Survey recorded the magnitude 2.6 seismic event at approximately 10:50 p.m. on April 19, 2025.
Its epicenter was located about 4 kilometers (2.4 miles) north-northeast of Mountain View Acres. The tremor occurred at a depth of 9.1 kilometers.
The area near Mojave Drive and Jeraldo Drive, close to Zion Lutheran Church and north of Hook Park in Victorville, was specifically noted as being near the quake's origin point.
Reports of the shaking quickly appeared on social media platforms. Residents in Victorville, along with those in Adelanto, Apple Valley, Hesperia, and Phelan, shared their experiences.
Many described the sensation as a "light rumble," a "quick jolt," or a "single thump." Some residents felt nothing at all.
One Victorville resident, Helen Riley, told local news she felt her bed shake while lying down and initially thought her dog had bumped it.
The quake was assigned a "Did You Feel It?" intensity level of III. This means it was felt indoors by some people, particularly on higher floors, but generally does not cause damage.
