NEWINGTON, Conn. – Four people died Saturday morning following a multi-vehicle crash in Newington. Police reported the collision occurred around 9 a.m. at the intersection of Willard Avenue and Greenlawn Avenue.
Three vehicles were involved in the crash. Emergency responders found four people deceased at the scene. A fifth person involved suffered only minor injuries.
Among those killed were Newington High School senior Gabriela Difo, her mother Florinda Tineo, and her aunt Jeannette Tineo. High school senior, family members among those killed in Newington crash according to a statement from Newington Public Schools.
The school district also noted Gabriela is the older sister of a current junior at the high school. Jeannette Tineo was the mother of a freshman. These younger students were not in the accident but face significant loss.
Newington Public Schools are mobilizing support for students and staff. Crisis counselors will be available Monday to help those affected by the tragedy. School administrators and counselors are also working directly with the grieving families.
Police have not yet publicly identified the fourth person who died in the accident. The investigation remains active.
The crash forced authorities to shut down a section of Willard Avenue. The closure impacted traffic between Robbins Avenue and Wilson Avenue for several hours Saturday.
The Mid-State Accident Reconstruction Squad is investigating the specific cause of the collision. Investigators ask anyone who saw the crash to contact Officer Lambros at (860) 594-6229. Four people were killed and another person was injured in the wreck.
