A Boil Water Advisory
has been issued for a large section of the city of Wyoming, MI
following a significant loss of pressure in the municipal water system.
The advisory, announced Wednesday morning, affects residents in an area generally located north and east of Buck Creek. City officials released a map showing the affected area
.
The pressure loss was attributed to a power and communications outage that occurred Wednesday. While city staff have restored pressure to the system, the drop could allow harmful bacteria to enter the water supply.
The boil water advisory
is a precautionary measure. No bacterial contamination had been confirmed in the water system as of Wednesday afternoon.
Under state guidelines, city staff must collect and test water samples for bacteria. Two consecutive clean samples are required before the advisory can be lifted.
The testing process typically takes a minimum of 48 hours, and it could be up to 72 hours before results confirm the water is safe for consumption.
Residents and businesses within the advisory area should boil water vigorously for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes.
