Authorities launched a search for a capital murder suspect Monday after he removed his ankle monitor and failed to appear for a court hearing. The search focused initially on the area of US Highway 80 east of Grand Saline.

Law enforcement searched the area for Trevor McEuen, who was scheduled to appear in Kaufman County court. Officials with the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office confirmed McEuen removed his court-ordered monitoring device early Monday morning.

Multiple agencies participated in the search, including the sheriff's office, DPS, and other local police departments. Tracking dogs from TDCJ were also part of the effort.

By afternoon, officials stated they believed McEuen had left the initial search area. They indicated there was no immediate danger to residents in the Grand Saline vicinity.

McEuen faces charges including capital murder. These charges stem from a May 2023 incident where he was accused of shooting and killing his neighbor, Aaron Martinez, in Kaufman County.

McEuen was arrested after a standoff with police following the shooting. His bond was later reduced from $2 million to $500,000.

Authorities urge anyone who sees McEuen or notices suspicious activity to contact 911. They caution against attempting to apprehend him.

Van Zandt County Sheriff Kevin Bridger stated the safety of citizens remains the top priority.

"We are working diligently with our partner agencies to ensure the safety of all our Citizens," Bridger said.
