Brendan Donovan, a 24-year-old resident and native of Reading, Massachusetts, died in an accident on May 4, 2025. He was a former captain of both the hockey and golf teams at Reading High School and recently worked in occupational safety.
Donovan attended Reading public schools and graduated from Reading High School in 2019. During his time there, he was recognized for his athletic skill and leadership, serving as captain for two varsity teams. His passion for sports, particularly golf and hockey, was a significant part of his life.
Following high school, he enrolled at Keene State College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Safety and Health Administration. While attending college, Donovan developed a passion for skiing and snowboarding, becoming an avid participant in mountain sports.
He applied his degree professionally, working most recently at Phillips Academy in Andover.
Golf remained a lifelong interest, influenced by his family's connection to Meadow Brook Golf Club. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father, he became a Junior Club Champion at Meadow Brook.
Donovan is survived by his parents, Brian F. and Gail M. Donovan, his sister, Kate M. Donovan, and his twin brother, Sean E. Donovan. He shared a close relationship with his siblings and a wide circle of friends from childhood through young adulthood.
He will be remembered by family and friends for his kind and humble nature and his ability to be present with others. His approach to life included considering his impact on those around him.
Visitation for Brendan Donovan will be held at the Douglass, Edgerley, and Bessom Funeral Home, located at 25 Sanborn Street in Reading, on Friday, May 9, from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral services and burial are private.
