Singer Adam Lambert will join the cast of the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl this summer, playing the role of Judas.
Lambert will appear opposite Cynthia Erivo, who was previously announced to play the role of Jesus in the production. The limited engagement is set for three nights, running August 1 through August 3.
The production will feature direction and choreography by Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo. Stephen Oremus, a two-time Grammy and Tony Award winner, will conduct and direct the musical.
Jesus Christ Superstar, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, began as a concept album in 1970 before its Broadway debut in 1971. The show has seen numerous revivals and adaptations, including a 1973 film and a live television performance in 2018. Cynthia Erivo also performed on an all-female concept album version in 2020.
Lambert recently completed a run on Broadway in Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, marking his debut in a Broadway show. His stage experience includes touring with Wicked before gaining prominence on American Idol.
Tickets for the Hollywood Bowl 2025 summer season are available. Single performance tickets for LA Phil-presented events, including Jesus Christ Superstar, go on sale Tuesday, May 6.
Lambert commented on his return to the stage.
"It started out in theater. It was my first love... Coming back to theater, it just feels really good for the soul."
