Country music artist Brian Kelley was revealed as the Mad Scientist Monster during the May 7 finale of the reality competition show, "The Masked Singer." Kelley, known as a former member of the duo Florida Georgia Line, finished his run on the program after weeks of performances.
Kelley told a news outlet the experience was positive. "I would do it all over again," he said, encouraging others to participate if given the chance. He described his time on the show as fun.
During his time on the show, Kelley performed songs outside the country genre, including renditions of "Stay" by Sugarland, "Love Yourself" by Justin Bieber, and "There’s Nothing Holding Me Back" by Shawn Mendes.
The panel of judges, including Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, and Rita Ora, offered various guesses about the identity of the Mad Scientist Monster. Jenny McCarthy named him among her final predictions. Other names considered by the judges included Kane Brown, Sam Hunt, Trace Adkins and Ronnie Dunn.
Kelley addressed the comparisons to other country singers, particularly Trace Adkins and Ronnie Dunn. He called the suggestion of being Dunn a "huge compliment." Regarding Adkins, Kelley noted the difference in vocal range and physical size.
Performing in the elaborate Mad Scientist costume presented physical challenges, notably the heat. Kelley, accustomed to various performance environments, mentioned needing a fan after one appearance due to sweating.
Looking ahead, the singer plans to return to the stage. He is scheduled to begin a tour starting July 24. Kelley also mentioned releasing new music, including a song with Huntt Garrett titled "Meet Me At the Bar."
Kelley reflected on the impact of participating in the competition. "I’m just grateful for the opportunity," he stated. "I didn’t know what to expect, but I left with a deeper sense of confidence. I left with just a sense of self, freeing myself... It’s a challenge to just really go be yourself and show people that I could sing this, I could do this, or we could try this, and hopefully you like it.”
