Country singer John Foster, a current contestant on American Idol, recently addressed misinformation spreading online about his background.
The 18-year-old from Addis, Louisiana, took to social media to correct reports questioning his age, hometown, and professional status as he competes for a spot in the show's top 7.
Among the rumors, Foster clarified that he is indeed 18 years old, not 24, as some reports suggested. He confirmed his upbringing in Addis, Louisiana, stating he is not from Benton, Kentucky, and has never visited that state.
Foster also denied being related to country musician Dwight Yoakam or being signed to any record label. He specifically mentioned a rumor claiming Yoakam signed him to Sugar Hill Records, which he stated was false.
He advised fans to verify information about him through his official social media pages, marked with a blue checkmark.
The singer is currently a student at Louisiana State University, studying biology with plans to become a "singing oncologist," he told judges during his audition.
Foster's high school sweetheart, Brooklyn Bourque, has supported him throughout his journey on John Foster. She was in the audience during the May 4 live show when he secured a spot in the top 8.
Bourque and Foster graduated together in May 2024.
On Monday, May 5, John Foster American Idol fans can vote to advance him to the top 7. Information on how to vote was shared by the show.
