Former Vice President Kamala Harris attended the annual Met Gala in New York City Monday evening, marking her first appearance at the high-profile fashion event.
Harris wore a black-and-white gown designed by Ib Kamara, the creative director of Off-White. The dress featured a flowing silhouette, with one side in icy white contrasting the black main body.
The look included a built-in scarf detail and a black ribbon belt cinched at the waist. Harris accessorized with a black clutch, dangling emerald earrings, and a matching ring.
The Met Gala theme this year, "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," was inspired by the book “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.”
Black fashion expert Kpoene Kofi-Bruce described the look as "elegant and timeless," adding it was "a little bit of a departure from her usual preppy pantsuit."
Harris reportedly skipped the public red carpet arrival at the event.
Her attendance comes as she has recently re-emerged into public life following the November 2024 election where she lost the presidential contest to Donald Trump and concluded her term as Vice President in January 2025.
Just last week, she gave her first public speech since January at the Emerge 20th Anniversary Gala in San Francisco.
Vogue quoted Harris ahead of the event, saying, "Art has always had a significant impact on not just culture, but also our policies and politics."
She concluded her recent San Francisco remarks stating, “Always remember this country is ours. It doesn’t belong to whoever is in the White House. It belongs to you. It belongs to us. It belongs to We The People.”
