Ballerina Misty Copeland recently shared details about her new book and her son’s introduction to dance. She also confirmed she plans to return to performing after a break.

Copeland's son, Jackson, who turned 3 this spring, has started taking ballet classes. She welcomed Jackson with her husband of nine years, Olu Evans, in the spring of 2022. Copeland noted that exposing children to the arts is necessary.

Her new book, "Letters to Misty: How to Move Through Life with Confidence and Grace," is set for release on Tuesday, May 6. The book offers advice to young readers, drawing on fan letters and Copeland's own experiences.

Copeland uses ballet techniques, including the five positions, as a framework for discussing topics such as navigating identity, building confidence, body image, and relationships with friends and parents.

She has received many letters from young people seeking advice over the years and feels fortunate to be in a trusted position to share guidance based on her life experiences.

A dancer professionally for more than 20 years, Copeland reflected on how motherhood has changed her. She stated that prioritizing family has brought a softer, more grounded rhythm to her life compared to the singular focus required as an athlete and artist.

Misty Copeland made history as the first Black female principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre. She has not performed for five years but revealed she is now back in the studio.

Copeland is getting back into shape and preparing for a return to the stage.
