Bestselling author James Patterson and YouTube creator Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, are partnering to write a thriller novel scheduled for publication in 2026 by HarperCollins. The book will have a global release in English and 14 other languages.

HarperCollins announced the collaboration Monday, describing the project as a "high-octane, pulse-pounding thriller." The publisher stated the novel will be part of its Global Publishing Program.

The untitled book will feature 100 contestants competing in an extreme global competition. Participants must survive dangerous tests in treacherous locations, demonstrate leadership, navigate relationships, and face betrayals and eliminations. The narrative indicates contestants may also die during the challenges. The last person remaining wins one billion dollars.

The agreement for world all-language rights was negotiated by a team including HarperCollins executives Brian Murray and Liate Stehlik. Representing Patterson were Robert Barnett and Deneen Howell. MrBeast was represented by Byrd Leavell and Albert Lee.

Patterson commented on meeting MrBeast at his studio. He stated they discussed the concept for hours and settled on an idea they found exciting to develop into a novel. Patterson added he believes the book will engage readers globally.

Brian Murray, president and CEO of HarperCollins, highlighted the power of social media storytelling and the need for a simultaneous global release when a top thriller writer and social media creator collaborate. He expressed pleasure that HarperCollins is the publishing partner for the book.

William Morrow will handle publication in the United States, and HarperFiction in the United Kingdom. In addition to English, the novel will be published in 14 other languages, including Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and others.

MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, said both he and Patterson share a passion for encouraging reading worldwide. He expressed hope the project will also create opportunities for other online creators interested in getting published.
