Diogo Elias assumed the role of chief executive officer for Avianca Cargo, effective May 1. His appointment follows a period serving as senior vice president for the cargo division since 2023.
Mr. Elias previously spent three years as managing director for cargo at Latam Airlines before joining Avianca.
In his new position, Elias will direct the company's growth strategy. This includes initiatives focused on strengthening operational capabilities and innovation within the division.
Key areas under his leadership include fleet expansion plans, bolstering the operational network, advancing digitalization efforts, and developing market presence. The stated aim is to maintain Avianca Cargo's standing as a leading air cargo provider in the region.
Under his prior two years of management, Avianca Cargo received recognition as one of the top six cargo airlines globally. The company was noted as the sole Latin American carrier on the ACNA index for this achievement. During this time, operations included over 220 flights exclusively for cargo services, alongside more than 1,400 passenger flights offering cargo capacity.
Leadership during this period also saw advancements in consolidating the service portfolio and expanding the network. This expansion notably included growth in the United States market, reaching a record number of direct connections from Miami to 25 destinations. Elias is tasked with continuing this trajectory of operational excellence and market penetration.
