Banking customers across the United States reported widespread issues Friday morning with account access and payment services, including problems with the Zelle platform. The disruptions affected customers of numerous financial institutions.

Initial reports surfaced early Friday, primarily involving TD Bank and Zelle users, according to data tracking online outages. As the morning progressed, customers of additional banks reported similar difficulties.

By 8 a.m. EDT, hundreds of reports indicated trouble with TD Bank and Zelle. This number continued to grow, with issues later reported by users of institutions including Ally Bank, Bank of America, Capital One, NBT Bank, Flagstar Bank, Cadence Bank, Webster Bank, Park National Bank, Northwest Bank, Prosperity Bank, and Santander. For more details on the affected services and banks, reports became available online Friday morning.

Representatives from some of the affected companies indicated the problems stemmed from an external provider. A spokesperson for Webster Bank stated that a third-party vendor was experiencing a data center issue impacting Webster and other banks.

The bank representative added that they were working with the vendor to resolve technology access issues for clients as quickly as possible.

TD Bank customers utilized social media platforms to report difficulties accessing their accounts through the bank's application and website. A spokesperson for TD Bank acknowledged the issues, stating that some applications might be experiencing problems and that their technical support team was working to resolve them.

Amid the disruptions, many customers specifically asked if Zelle was down due to difficulties sending or receiving payments.

A Zelle spokesperson addressed the situation, confirming awareness of issues affecting certain users at some financial institutions.

"We are aware that certain Zelle® users at some financial institutions are not able to use Zelle at this time. This situation involves an independent third-party that provides services to particular financial institutions. We are working diligently with our partners to resolve this matter as soon as we can. Zelle users may see transactions marked as ‘payment pending’ in the meantime. We will share updates as more information becomes available.”
